OUR STORY

Regenerative Agriculture, Built for the Future

Lion Farms is a USDA-Certified Organic regenerative farm located in the Redland Agricultural Area of South Florida. What began as a vision to grow better food has evolved into a living innovation campus where applied science, biodiversity, and zero-waste systems converge.

We specialize in gourmet mushrooms, vermicompost, agroforestry, and regenerative soil systems—integrating controlled environment agriculture with outdoor food forests, aquaculture, and research partnerships. Every system on the farm is designed to close loops, build soil, and demonstrate what resilient food production looks like in a subtropical climate.

Lion Farms operates as both a production farm and a research platform, bridging academic study with daily operations through collaborations with Florida International University, the University of Florida, and regional agroecology programs.

A Living System, Not a Single Operation

Start Now

We integrate agroforestry, vermiculture, aquaculture, and controlled environment agriculture into a single closed-loop system. Spent mushroom substrate becomes worm feed. Vermicompost nourishes the food forest. Fish fertilize crops. Waste becomes fertility.

1. Regenerative Design

Start Now

Lion Farms functions as a working research site. Our collaborations with FIU and UF support studies in soil biology, cover crops, biochar, precision agriculture, and sustainable crop management. We turn real data into real farming improvements.

2. Applied Science & Research

Start Now

Our indoor mushroom facility uses precision control of humidity, airflow, CO₂, and sanitation to produce consistent, high-quality mushrooms year-round, regardless of external climate conditions.

3. Controlled Environment Agriculture

Start Now

Our syntropic food forest integrates subtropical fruit trees, root crops, and cover crops to improve soil fertility, stabilize ecosystems, and increase long-term productivity. This system reflects natural succession rather than monoculture farming.

4. Biodiversity & Agroforestry

Start Now

Nothing leaves the system unused. Organic waste becomes compost. Spent substrate becomes soil input. Biomass becomes biochar. Nutrients are recycled across the entire farm ecosystem.

5. Zero-Waste Farming

Start Now

We host farm tours, student internships, workshops, and academic collaborations. Lion Farms exists not just to grow food—but to grow knowledge, careers, and regenerative leadership.

6. Education & Community

Lion’s Mane is one
of our specialties.

From inoculating each bag in our lab to guiding every stage of fruiting, we cultivate this mushroom entirely in-house—shaping its structure, density, and quality from the very beginning. What you see growing here reflects a process rooted in precision, patience, and respect for the organism itself.

At Lion Farms, vermicompost and vermicompost tea are applied using principles adapted from precision agriculture and 4R nutrient stewardship.

Our approach combines regenerative farming experience with applied soil science to ensure biology is introduced intentionally, efficiently, and in alignment with system goals.

Biological inputs are most effective when applied as:

  • Right Material

Selecting vermicompost or vermicompost tea based on soil condition and management objectives.

  • Right Rate

Applying biologically appropriate quantities that support microbial function without overloading the system.

  • Right Time

Aligning applications with plant growth stages, environmental conditions, and soil biological activity.

  • Right Place

Targeting the root zone, soil surface, or foliar environment where biological interactions occur.
