VERMICOMPOST
precision agriculture principles & applied soil science.

Healthy soil is foundational to every system we work with, from indoor cultivation to perennial landscapes.

ver·mi·com·post
: compost that is composed primarily of worm castings and decaying organic matter and that is produced through the practice of vermicomposting
At Lion Farms, vermicompost is a biologically active soil amendment produced and applied within a closed-loop farming system. Our approach integrates precision agriculture principles with applied soil science to support long-term soil function rather than short-term nutrient inputs.

Soil Regeneration by Design
Vermicompost functions differently than conventional soil amendments. Its value is not limited to nutrient content, but lies in the biological processes it supports—microbial activity, organic matter stabilization, and soil structure development.
At Lion Farms, vermicompost exists as part of a larger system that connects:
-
Mushroom cultivation
-
Organic material recovery
-
Controlled biological processing
-
Targeted soil application
Each component is designed to reinforce the next.
At Lion Farms, vermicompost is not a byproduct or add-on. It is a core biological system, intentionally designed to convert organic material into long-term soil function.
Rather than isolating compost as a single input, our approach integrates production, application, and regeneration into a closed-loop framework

Vermicompost is composed of plant growth regulators, diverse microorganismal communities and nutrients essential for plant growth. Scientist speculate that this winning combination might be causing physical or chemical alterations to the plant/surrounding soil enhancing pest and pathogen tolerance in select crop plants.
Our soil work emphasizes precision application, site-specific planning, and seasonal alignment rather than one-size-fits-all solutions.
Designed From the Ground Up
From Production to the Field
Vermicompost at Lion Farms is built into the way the farm operates, not added on later. Feedstocks are selected intentionally, materials are processed on-site, and biological conditions are managed daily as part of an integrated system.
Decisions are shaped by observation, iteration, and research conducted in real growing environments—where soil, crops, and biology interact continuously rather than under controlled lab conditions.
Vermicompost produced at Lion Farms is applied directly within the farm’s own production systems. It supports food forests, perennial plantings, nursery soils, and active research plots, allowing biological amendments to be evaluated under real management conditions.
Vermicompost tea extends this system by delivering biology in liquid form, making it possible to apply microbial activity precisely where solid amendments cannot be incorporated.
South Florida soils are typically characterized by low organic matter, high sand content, and rapid nutrient leaching under subtropical rainfall. These conditions limit nutrient retention and make timing and biological activity especially important.
Vermicompost systems at Lion Farms are designed within this regional context. Production methods, application strategies, and field use are informed by local climate, soil conditions, and cropping systems rather than generalized soil models.
